The San Francisco Treat

I could not have thought of a better way to spend Memorial Day weekend than with my man and friends.

TallT and I surprised our friend Xman by showing up at the airport to fly to San Francisco with him and his boyfriend, Bijai, for Xman's birthday weekend!

His boyfriend invited us almost a month ago and we jumped on it immediately! I can't believe we kept the secret for so long, especially since I almost spilled the beans a week ago due to a VERY strong margarita.

Anyways, the trip was darn near perfect. We each had a tense moment here and there, but corrected ourselves and all-in-all had an amazing time.

We flew into San Jose, CA on Friday night. We hit up Gay Day at an amusement park called Great Adventure. Afterwards, we headed to San Francisco at almost 2 in the morning to check into our hotel. All I can say is this... the sleep was amazing!

The next day we all woke up and had breakfast at IHOP. Who knew they had mimosas at IHOP? I surely didn't, but enjoyed two of them! hahahaha After going back to our rooms and getting ready, we hit up downtown San Francisco for some shopping, site seeing and eating (we had the BEST mahi-mahi fish and chips from Bubba Gump's on Pier 39)

We made it back to the hotel just in time to get changed for a night out. An old friend of mine from the military met up with us and we all hit the gay part of town in San Francisco, the Castro district. We partied, mingled, bar-hopped and ate some more!

On Sunday, Xman and his boyfriend had to go back to San Jose for a college graduation. TallT and I stayed behind and caught the BART (subway system) to the Castro district again and experienced it in the day time. There was so much fun stuff going on! Just walking the street was an experience in itself.

Xman and his boyfriend showed up after the graduation and reception around 7 or 8 pm. We went to a bar called The Lookout and before I knew it, we were hanging out with like 10 or 12 people that we did not know and they were buying us drinks. It was a good time. We then met up with some of Xman's boyfriend's friends and hit up two more spots before heading back to the hotel. Needless to say, I was EXHAUSTED.

Monday, before heading back to the airport, we spent the day in Union Square. We shopped, had lunch and enjoyed our last hours in San Fran. We even took a quick spin to the Golden Gate Bridge so that TallT and Xman could see it since it was their first trips to San Fran.

The flight back was nice and comfortable. Believe me, when I say that I was exhausted beyond belief when we got home. Sleep never felt so good!

Thanks Xman, Bijai and baby for such a fun weekend. It was EXACTLY what the doctor ordered. Happy birthday Xman and can't wait until our next trip! Love you guys!

It is our first as a couple so I admit that I am a little geeked about it! hahaha

We both need a break. We have been going non-stop for the last few months so some downtime is just what the doctor ordered!

I am already packed. I have to go home and make sure he has all of his stuff together.

A Soulful Relationship

If you're not married yet, share this with a friend. If you are married, share it with your spouse or other married couples and reflect on it. An African proverb states, "Before you get married, keep both eyes open, and after you marry, close one eye."

Before you get involved and make a commitment to someone, don't let lust, desperation, immaturity, ignorance, pressure from others or a low self-esteem make you blind to warning signs. Keep your eyes open, and don't fool yourself that you can change someone or that what you see as faults aren't really important.

Once you decide to commit to someone, over time their flaws, vulnerabilities, pet peeves, and differences will become more obvious.

If you love your mate and want the relationship to grow and evolve, you've got to learn to close one eye and not let every little thing bother you. You and your mate have many different expectations, emotional needs, values, dreams, weaknesses, and strengths. You are two unique individuals who have decided to share a life together.

Neither of you are perfect, but are you perfect for each other? Do you bring out the best of each other? Do you compliment and compromise with each other, or do you compete, compare, and control? What do you bring to the relationship? Do you bring past relationships, past hurt, past mistrust, past pain?

You can't take someone to the altar to alter him or her. You can't make someone love you or make someone stay. If you develop self-esteem, spiritual discernment, and "a life", you won't find yourself making someone else responsible for your happiness or responsible for your pain. Manipulation, control, jealousy, neediness, and selfishness are not the ingredients of a thriving, healthy, loving and lasting relationship.

Seeking status, sex, wealth, and security are the wrong reasons to be in a relationship.

Q. What keeps a relationship strong?

Answer: Communication, intimacy, trust, a sense of humor, sharing household tasks, some getaway time without business or children and daily exchanges (a meal, a shared activity, a hug, a call, a touch, a note). Sharing common goals and interests. Leave a nice message on their voice mail or send a nice email.

Growth is important. Grow together, not away from each other, giving each other space to grow without feeling insecure. Allow your mate to have outside interest. You can't always be together. Give each other a sense of belonging and assurances of commitment. Don't try to control one another.

Learn each others family situation. Respect his or her parents regardless.

Don't put pressure on each other for material goods. Remember for richer or for poorer. If these qualities are missing, the relationship will erode as resentment, withdrawal, abuse, neglect, dishonesty, and pain will replace the passion.

Nurture your mind with great thoughts, for you will never go any higher than you think. Shall we make a new rule of life from tonight.

Always to try to be a little kinder than is necessary.

The difference between 'United' and 'Untied' is where you put the i. Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
