Q

There is no starting over!! Only shifting gears. Like you said, it's about taking the lessons learned from your current phase-THAT'S THE KEY! Only when you've gotten the lesson can you switch gears and move forward. We only get one shot at this thing called life. Continue to give every situation everything you have but then know that when it doesn't (seemingly) work out, be able to switch gears and move forward to your next chapter.

Words of wisdom for this year thus far: As long as you received the lesson learned-you've won! We can't start over but we can shift gears and continue to move forward to our destination. Sometimes we think certain "places" are our destination but most of the time they're just rest areas, gas stations and flat tires!!!

DISC of the Week

  • En Vogue -

    En Vogue: Gift of Christmas
A Christmas cd from my my favorite girl group of all-time. How can I not be listening to it right now? Though Cindy Herron and Terry Ellis are not joined by Maxine Jones and Dawn Robinson on this cd, they do use temporary member, Amanda Cole to great effect on this holiday set. The harmonies are still tight and the reworkings of "Have Yourself A Merry Christmas" (mixed in with the beat of "Giving Him Something He Can Feel") and Jingle Bells (Euro Mix) are fun and should be played at every Christmas party! Original songs "Snowy Nights" and "With My Honey" are great additions to contemporary Christmas music and still have the En Vogue signature sound. If you can get your hands on this cd I definitely suggest it. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the fact that the four original members are not on the recording. (****)

On My Bookshelf

  • E. Lynn Harris: Mama Dearest

    E. Lynn Harris: Mama Dearest
With Doubleday Publishing's post-humous release of E. Lynn Harris' Mama Dearest came a bittersweet read. Bitter because one could not read the book without constantly remembering that this may very well be the last piece of work we may read from the gifted writer. Sweet because it reconnects us to an earlier storyline told in other Harris books and reunites us with many of Harris' most colorful and beloved characters. Yancey Braxton is back and trying to revive her career. Where Yancey is, her spotlight stealing mother, Ava, is NEVER far behind. The love/(mostly)HATE relationship that the ladies share gets even more complicated and interesting when Ava figures out a secret about Yancey and goes all out to benefit from it. Mama Dearest is a homecoming and a homegoing... all in one book. R.I.P. E. Lynn Harris. (*****)
